FRIDAY THE 13TH PART FIVE AND SIX!

I failed to mention in the last review that Part four actually introduces a reoccurring character the hero Tommy Jarvis. In the fourth one Tommy Jarvis is played by Corey Feldman who tells a humorous anecdote about a scene towards the end of the forth one. They were waiting for Jason to come through the window and jump onto the set, but he took to long and they were wondering what happened. Suddenly, Jason breaks through another window that Corey Feldman wasn’t expecting him to come out of and scared Feldman for real, when you look at the shot the reaction on his face was genuine.

Tommy Jarvis then went on to be a character in part five played by John Shepard, and in the sixth a more vocal Tommy Jarvis stars a horror player Thom Matthews (RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD).

 FRIDAY THE 13th, part five

Was titled THE NEW BEGINNING, and was geared to start the franchise in a new direction. With the failure of HALLOWEEN 3, they must have gotten smart and decided to put Jason back into the film. However, this film was shot with little care because there are so many revealing mistakes in continuity that they seemed just to make it to make a buck. For example a woman is running through the woods with a sweater on, and in the next take she doesn’t have the sweater and in the next shot she has it on again. This film has an infamous twist ending that nobody would really care about, but to true Friday the 13th fans this one is the black sheep. It starts out years later after part four where Tommy Jarvis is locked up in a mental institution and murders just start occurring after a brutal slaying of another patient. This film has many issues, the actor who plays Tommy Jarvis utters only twenty-four words through out the movie (not the actor’s fault), actress dancer Tiffany Helm has a cameo as Violet, Miguel Nunez (also from RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD), and Shavar Ross (Dudley the friend of Arnold from DIFFERENT STROKES). This again is one of least favorite in the series, they compensated with an actual script to just original kills and more nudity it seems like. However this installment leads to build up for an even better FRIDAY, part six JASON LIVES

Unfortuantely I could only find the teaser trailer for part six

FRIDAY THE 13th, part six

The real Jason is back! This film is my second favorite to part three. This one actually had a script written with an actual writer taking care with the project. The pacing is perfect and it plays like an action film rather than a horror movie. Tommy Jarvis is on a quest to burn the remains of Jason Voorhees, which is nonsensical because he is officially dead. But his obsession leads him to destroy Jason once and for all, Ironically he resurrects Jason and makes Jason stronger than ever. The score is in full swing, the action and stunts are both top notch and the humor is actually very much in place. This film has a few cameos such as Thom Matthews, Tony Goldwyn (GHOST), Tom Fridley (John Travolta’s nephew) Renee Jones (DAYS OF OUR LIVES), David Kagen (star of many television shows LIFE, C.S.I), Alan Blumenfeld (HEROES) and of course Mister Ron Palillo (Horseshack from WELCOME BACK KOTTER). I love this one because this is probably the first FRIDAY movie I ever saw on television when I was a kid and it scared the hell out of me. Especially one part where a little girl was running through the campsite and a cop stops her and tries to calm him down. The little girl then proceeds to tell the cop that a “scary man” is after her, to her reply: “What scary man?” Then Jason comes out of nowhere, takes six shots in the chest and breaks the cops neck. Scarred me for me for life and made me the well-adjusted human being that I am now. Plus Alice Cooper sings the ending credits, “THE MAN BEHIND THE MASK.” This is the FRIDAY to watch on a big screen.

Now the Alice Cooper song, I love 1986!
