WALL-E, eye candy and that’s all folks.
WALL-E
This last summer an animated kids film premiered about a little robot named WALL-E. It charmed the hearts of millions of children and made a lot of money for PIXAR; however it’s just a light show for kids and a bland/bore fest for adults. First off the star of the film is look a like and rip off of E.T. and Short Circuit. The plot doesn’t kick in for more than forty-five minutes into the film; we don’t really know what the film is about until half way through the movie. The climax of the film really doesn’t have anything monumental to do with the story (little story that there is), after the villains are revealed there is a final fifteen-minute chase that leads to nothing and an uneventful ending. There is something interesting though, there are some live action parts with actual human actors but its dwarfed by the nothing plot line. There is even a character that is part homage/part rip-off; the captain of a ship has a robot that’s screwed to the ceiling that looks exactly like the robot in FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR (one of my favorite science fiction films). It’s beautifully made but that’s it. Avoid WALL-E if you can.
