MICHAEL CRICHTON
I have a sad note for all of the world, the author of so many good science fiction books past away last Friday Michael Crichton. Crichton wrote books and stories to put him through medical school, when a turn happened in his favor; his books actually were really good and started to be turned into motion pictures. He actually started training in become a film director and filmed the sci-fi classic (before THE TERMINATOR) WEST WORLD and the Michael Douglas medical thriller (written by Robin Cook) COMA.
His books hit big in the nineteen eighties with RISING SUN, CONGO, THE ANDROMEDIA STRAIN (which was made into a film in the nineteen seventies), it wasn’t until JURRASIC PARK was published when he first got household fame. Steven Speilberg’s company bought the rights to the novel in 1990 and a few years later the film was bought to life in a big way. Michael Crichton passed away on November 8 of cancer; he will be missed as a great novelist and a great contributor to a great medium. Mr. Crichton also created one of the most popular medical shows to date: E.R.

COMA – Michael Douglas and Genevieve Bujold are doctors in a hospital that keeps having patients slip into comas for mysterious circumstances. It’s up to the two of them to figure out what’s going down at the hospital. COMA is an excellent thriller with a great score by Jerry Goldsmith.
