Lawrence of Arabia
LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, another film in my all time greatest film in cinema.
Lawrence of Arabia is one of the best films of all time. The film is about the pumping story of Thomas Edward Lawrence is told magnificently by David Lean and the incredible actor Sir Peter O’Toole. The story is told mainly by flashback, where a young Lawrence started as an intelligence officer in 1916 and as an agent to investigate the Arab revolts against the Turks in World War 1. He eventually becomes the Guerilla army leader and unwilling helps the British rule over the Ottoman Empire. The cast is stellar with Anthony Quinn stealing most of the film as Auda abu Tayi, A young Omar Sharif is one of his best performances ever (a pre-cursor for his starring role as Dr. Zhivago). Peter O’Toole told a story on the Johnny Carson show that the film took so long to make that he filmed a scene on a staircase at the top and when he got to the bottom they had to re-shoot so when he reached the bottom of the staircase he actually was a year older. Filmed brilliantly by David Leans direction and cinematography by Freddie Young this is a staple of any film school.
