Psycho
I know I just posted a post on cinematic classics but didn’t go into severe detail about each one of them; I’m going to try and rectify that with five different posts on each film.
PSYCHO, starring Janet Leigh, Vera Miles, Martin Balsam and Anthony Perkins is one of the best thrillers ever constructed. Leigh decides to steal some money from her employer so her and her boyfriend can start a new life. On the way towards her escape she enters the Bates motel where nasty things happen to Leigh. Now, with the help of Balsam, Vivian Miles must find out what happened to her sister and the money that she took. Hitchcock planned his shots perfectly and the suspense meter is all the way on the number ten setting as you watch the events unfold. The mystery gets deeper and deeper until the unforgettable climax. This film is genius and perfection at its best.
AVOID, the 1998 remake. It’s probably the worst idea on the planet. Not only is it remake, it’s a shot for shot copy of the Hitchcock film. It’s like watching your favorite play with different actors, but it’s still EXACTLY the same. Gus Van Sant who directed this tragedy should’ve pulled some details from the novel by Robert Bloch, that would have been interesting, not this exact carbon copy of things we already saw.
