THE DARK KNIGHT
THE DARK KNIGHT
Never in my life have I seen a film’s popularity instantaneously erupt in less than a week. With the opening of THE DARK KNIGHT it blew all sorts of box office records, and dethroned (for a short time) THE GODFATHER as the best film of all time according to Internet Movie Database. Partly due to an incredible performance by Heath Ledger, this film is the film to see.
The film takes place after BATMAN BEGINS left off, the city in turmoil from gangsters and high crime and a mysterious psycho known only as the “Joker” plans to destroy the city with an unknown motive.
The film’s strength is the fact that this isn’t just a costumed superhero movie where evildoers are doing just evil things. This film plays more like a psychological thriller where the Joker actually sets tasks and challenge’s every character in the film. The Joker at one point lays the task of Gotham city murdering one individual. The city goes bonkers and chase the police barricade with this marked man through the street and Commisoner Gorden can’t even trust his own police men to protect the marked man. A verbal discussion happens between Gordon and a young police officer that is holding the barricade hostage. The writing and th acting in that scene alone is worthy of an Oscar nomination.
Plot twists are abundant in this movie particularly the ending, the ending is not typical and predictable and to me that makes a great flick! To actually go into more detail would actually be taking enjoyment of seeing the film, when the film hits DVD I will analyze any further, till then enjoy Heath Ledger’s final haunting performance.
