A STRANGER IS WATCHING

Mary Higgins Clark’s novel became a cinematic reality in 1982, with Sean Cunningham behind the wheel. A sadistic blackmailer, played by Rip Torn, kidnaps the child of a CEO of a publication along with his television reporter girlfriend played by Kate Mulgrew. This is your basic cat and mouse kind of thriller where the Torn terrorizes Mulgrew and the young girl in a sub basement underneath New York City’s Grand Central Terminal. The film is a small forgotten little film and is honestly nothing special. However I have a personal family connection to this film, my Grandfather was actually a supervisor at Grand Central Terminal during filming and supposedly the director or a producer asked my Grandfather if they can have access to his fire hoses to wet a tunnel down. He was curious as to why they needed to wet down the tunnel, and they told them the reflective surface looks great on film. Thirty minutes into the film Rip Torn and Kate Mulgrew are walking down one of Grand Central Terminal’s tunnels and the walls are wet.

Check out this film directed by Sean Cunningham with an assist by my Grandfather
